Gibbs Connors of Philadelphia letters the “Greasy Gringo”

Gibbs Connors of Philadelphia letters the “Greasy Gringo” a 1951 BSA “drag bike” built by Dan Daughenbaugh (@badnewsdan).  Dan, who is a carpenter by day and biker the rest of the time built this bike entirely himself to run on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Ogden, UT this summer in an attempt to break the land speed record in the 500CC motorcycle class.

Dan delivered the bike to Gibbs’ shop, handed him a sheet of paper and said “this is what it needs to say, have at it”. Gibbs decided to keep it true to the look of the bike that Dan built: vintage ’70s drag racing style, nothing to fancy, just clean and simple with a little snap. Gibbs chose to keep it subtle with engine turned 12K gold leaf on the fuel tank in a sign painter script with a red outline.
